Chorluka
A topical system of care for Indonesian women with diabetic foot wounds
2020
Chorluka is a speculative product design in response to research analyzed in relation to the effects of the secretion of the bow-winged grasshopper on skin wounds, and the issue of diabetic foot wounds found among Indonesian women.
Based on a study found on the effectiveness of the secretion of the bow-winged grasshopper in treating skin wounds, I chose to explore the possible applications of this substance. In researching potential demographics that could benefit most from this sort of treatment, I learned that diabetic foot wounds are a condition that is lacking in efficient medical solutions. Specifically among women aged
50-65 in Indonesia is there a significant prevalence of cases. This is also a demographic of people living with diabetes that current treatments and suggested measures for treating diabetic foot ulcers are not practical for their lifestyles. In response to this, I designed a a system of topical care to help treat these wounds while allowing patients to continue their normal routines concurrently with treatment.
